OUR VISION
All Souls Church members make a difference in children’s education by getting and keeping schools off the ‘At Risk’ list.
OUR MISSION
The Partners in Education Team makes a Positive Difference in the lives of Tulsa Children.
LAURA DESTER SHELTER
The Laura Dester Shelter is a temporary shelter for children who need to be in a safe place until a family member or a foster placement can be found. PIE has been instrumental in helping to develop a classroom at the Shelter. PIE has also partly funded a teacher for the classroom. Volunteers can tutor, help with homework, read to young children, rock babies or just spend time playing with the children in residency at the shelter.
JACKSON ELEMENTARY
PIE has been a Partner in Education with Jackson Elementary for 18 years. Working under the direction of the classroom teacher, volunteers work with one child or several children, reinforcing the basic skills of reading and mathematics. Volunteers may be asked to do special projects with the children or engage them in an enrichment activity. Lunch Buddies have lunch with a special child who needs a friend, someone to talk to, someone to listen. Field Trip Chaperones accompany children on special trips in the community. Volunteers help with all school activities such as the Family Reads Night, Neighborhood activities, and PTA.
HAMILTON CAREER ACADEMY
PIE has built a Coalition of Partners in Education to support the career focus of each grade’s curriculum. Companies interested in joining this Coalition of Partners may contact a PIE member.
Working under the direction of the classroom teachers, volunteers assist scholars in mastering the basic skills of reading, writing, communication, mathematics, algebra, and science.
Lunch Buddies meet once a week to have lunch with a scholar. Science Fair Coaches judge the Science Fair and may serve as mentors to scholars engaged in developing a project for the fair.
Volunteers may help with a special writing project in partnership with the University of Tulsa. Volunteers serve as monitors for state testing in April.
GILCREASE MIDDLE SCHOOL
Tutors volunteer to work with students in a special Out of School program or at Saturday School. Volunteers work in classrooms under the direction of the classroom teachers to help students master the basic skills of reading, communication, mathematics, algebra, and science.
Science Fair Judges judge the student science exhibits. Volunteers mentor students who are interested in developing a Science Fair Project. Volunteers serve as monitors for state testing in April.
Lunch Buddies meet with students once a week to have lunch and talk about school, community, achievement and setting goals.
Enrichment Courses for Jackson, Gilcrease, and Hamilton
If you can teach a mini-coarse in chess, scrabble, art appreciation, music, dance, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, scrapbooking, woodworking, photography, aerobics, golf, fishing, or writing, please volunteer. PIE will work with you to develop the coarse and assist with materials, etc.
SPEAKER’S BUREAU
All Souls PIE Team maintains a Speaker’s Bureau. PIE asks members to share their careers, hobbies, travels, jobs, special skills and interests with students. Volunteer speakers are asked to make one/two presentations per year to the classroom. Volunteer speakers may participate in career fairs.
SCHOOL GARDENS
PIE is sponsoring the school gardening projects. If you are interested in sharing your passion for plants, flowers, and gardening in general, please volunteer. If you have tillers, shovels, fencing, birdhouses, plants, equipment to donate or share, plaese call a PIE member.
PIE Holiday Tree
The PIE Holiday Wish Tree provides a way to satisfy special wishes of the faculty or staff at Jackson Elementary, Hamilton Career Academy, Gilcrease Middle School and Laura Dester Shelter. All Souls members select the STAR WISHES, purchase the gifts, return them to the church and PIE members deliver them to the schools.
